Infant Scheduleinfant schedule

A typical day in my childcare may go something like this:

  • There should be at least a little time for breakfast and some playtime at your home in the morning before departing for my childcare home. Many parents give their child a morning bottle and let me feed the rest of the meals.
  • If the baby arrives at my childcare home between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. there is usually playtime until 9:00 a.m. Then, we have breakfast, diapers are changed, and the babies are put down by 10:00 a.m. for a morning nap. Most infants younger than 10-12 months are still taking a morning nap.
  • When the babies wake up (usually around 11:00 a.m.), diapers are changed. It’s also lunch time. For some infants that will mean being held and fed a bottle of milk or formula, for older ones it may mean a bottle and strained baby food.
  • These infants are now usually ready for an active playtime. I always allow a special time with each infant/toddler at some point during the day.
  • Later in the afternoon (1:00 p.m.) the babies will be ready for another diaper change and an afternoon nap. This nap usually lasts about two hours. Around 3:00 p.m., the infants wake up, and it's diaper changing time again. Then, they are ready for a snack. This may mean a bottle of juice for the younger infants and juice and cookies for the older infants.
  • After 4:00 p.m., all infants should be awake, have their diapers changed, have a snack, and be ready for some afternoon playtime until departure.
